Much loved former Stoke City striker Ricardo Fuller turned the grand old age of 39 yesterday and the clubs’ social media team were quick to pass on their birthday wishes.

77 capped Jamaican international Fuller played for a number of clubs during his playing career, but the outstanding part of his career in terms of appearances and goals came with Stoke. Joining in August 2006 for a snip £500,000 from Southampton, he went on to make 137 starting appearances for us, with an additional 71 showings from the substitutes bench. Across his six years with us, he bagged 50 goals in total before moving on as a free agent to Charlton Athletic.

He had his moments splitting the fanbase with his performances, but many fans will look back and wonder who many more appearances he should’ve made – as his commitment and attitude was certainly never in doubt and he hit some very important goals for us as the club improved on and off the pitch during that period.

For the more youthful fan amongst us, you only have to watch the highlight reel to see what a massive player he was for us and given his game time he was pretty prolific compared to others. They really don’t seem to make them like they used to.
