Ipswich striker Jon Walters is, according to the Daily Mail, on the verge of becoming Stoke`s first summer signing. The Ipswich captain is apparently on his way to the Potteries to discuss a £3 million move.

Walters has been on Tony Pulis`s radar for a while and almost joined Stoke last year. It is thought that although a centre-forward by trade, Walters would be used on the right wing where he proved to be very effective for Roy Keane last season.

The 26 year-old would prove to be a very capable replacement for Liam Lawrence. The Irishman is expected to join up with Celtic in the next coming days which would leave a big gap on the right wing.

Walters was Ipswich`s top scorer last season with 8 and Roy Keane is staggered that he isnt already a Premier League player by saying “Jon Walters could easily be playing in the Premier League so we’re very lucky to have him. How he’s not playing there I’ll never know. He’s a big, big player for us”.

Walters has played 145 games for Ipswich scoring 32 goals which is around 1 every 5 games. Despite representing Ireland at both u21 and B level he has never made a senior appearance for his country.
