Stoke City are being linked with a loan move for Leicester City fullback Danny Simpson.

The 31-year-old right-back was a pivotal part of Claudio Ranieri’s side as Leicester surprised football a few seasons ago and ran to the Premier League title, but in recent times he has found his game time limited under Claude Puel as he slips behind Daniel Amartey and their summer signing Ricardo Perira.

He was apparently the subject of a deadline day enquiry from Wolverhampton Wanderers but with that not progressing, the Leicester Mercury have him linked with a loan move to us.

Puel was quoted recently as saying.

“We have different possibilities with Ricardo and Amartey. With Danny Simpson, I made a choice and, for the moment, we play with Ricardo and Amartey.”

The Telegraph also have him linked with Stoke and although the suggestion is a throwaway line in a piece focused on Harry Maguire, that does appear to be the sole basis for the reports now doing the rounds and at least from what I can tell, that’s about as concrete as this one gets.

Simpson would add some useful experience and be an option for us, so I wouldn’t be against it on that score, but given how weak the speculation is at the moment I’m not expecting anything to happen at this stage at least.
