It wasn’t a great evening for Stoke City fans as we hosted newly promoted Wigan Athletic at the Bet365 Stadium yesterday evening.
Still searching for a first win in the Championship campaign of 2018/19 following last year’s Premier League relegation, we went down limply 3-0 on the night and we were far from at the races once more.
We did edge possession in the game but we failed to register a shot on target and a bad day got worse when Ashley Williams saw red for two bookable offences – we played the final 12 minutes of the game down at ten men.
Whilst Stoke fans fumed about a number of things from the net, fans of Williams’ former club, Everton, focused on him.
Boos rang round the stadium at the fulltime whistle but I guess few realised that Williams has now been sent off twice in his last three league starts – the previous one coming for Everton in their game against Burnley last March.
Haha

Thought that when he went there, Championship sides when they see him up against him will think ‘we can get at them’ especially a team like Wigan

Ashley Williams doing a Burnley, disgrace of a footballer.

Clearly, the Welshman isn’t liked at Goodison Park and he became an easy scapegoat for them under Sam Allardyce, and he’s far from the only problem we have at Stoke in terms of performance levels from last night but that was woeful and he’ll quickly become a go-to guy if he can’t find his previous Swansea form as he hasn’t become a bad player overnight, he just probably needs to get his confidence up quickly.
But that won’t have helped.
