Stoke City have announced that their new manager is Gary Rowett and he has joined the club from Derby County on a three-year deal.

Stoke had to pay a compensation package to Derby, believed to be £1.8million, to get the services of the 43 year old former Birmingham City man.

Rowett told Official Website:
“This has come around quite quickly, but I am absolutely delighted to make the move to such an ambitious football club. It has had amazing stability over the years, has been established in the Premier League for some time and the challenge for me now is, of course, to get Stoke City back into that division as soon as possible.”

There had been a bit of a delay in announcing the appointment today and apparently that was because Rowett had originally wanted a four year deal with the club. Presumably he was happy to settle for three years in the end.

Rowett now has plenty of time to assemble his backroom staff and prepare the team for next seasons assault on the Championship, it has been hinted that he will be backed in the transfer market as the current side needs stripping of dead wood.
