With the announcement of Gary Rowett’s appointment as Stoke City’s new manager yesterday on a three-year deal, social media went into meltdown with supporters of his former club’s welcoming the opportunity to continue long-standing grudges.

The above tweet from the club quickly gained over 300 responses and the majority of it was puerile childish nonsense from other fans around the country, so I’m certainly not going to give those comments airtime here.
From a purely Stoke City point of view though, it appears his appointment has been largely well received, even if it means a return to a more defensive style of football. Afterall, following the last few seasons, fans are more than willing to take that hit to see us move forward on a more solid footing once again as it was against that backdrop that Stoke gained promotion and established themselves in the top-flight to begin with.
Peter and John Coates:
“We are delighted to be able to move so quickly to secure Gary’s services and we are now looking forward to working with him towards our objective of returning to the Premier League as soon as possible.”#SCFC ????⚪️

Sometimes, going back to basics can be exactly what the doctor ordered and now we wait and see if that comes to pass and whether he can deal with the expectation that will be around the Stadium this season as everyone looks for promotion at the first attempt.
What an appointment!
WE’LL COME BACK UP AND WIN THE CUP!!!

Very pleased, don’t care if he’s safety first playing style wise, after the season we’ve had it’s time we had a solid defensive base.
