Stoke City opened their pre-season campaign with a routine 2-0 win over Newcastle Town at The Lyme Valley on Sunday afternoon. The match, Tony Pulis’ first since his re-appointment, saw an encouraging 45 minute outing for injury-prone midfielder John Eustace. Potters fans will now be hoping the popular midfielder can pick up his fitness and make a return to the first team against Southend on the opening day of the season.

City’s goals came through former Wolves and Bolton striker Nathan Blake, who is training with the rest of the team, and Mama Sidibe’s second-half finish.

Pulis’ men are next in action this Tuesday against Chester City at The Deva Stadium.

Team 1st Half: Simmo, Harper, Russell, Broomes, Wilkinson, Duberry, Paterson, Kopteff, Brammer, Eustace, Blake, Rooney.

Team 2nd Half: Duggan, Hoefkens, Dickinson, Buxton, Hill, Chadwick, Sigurdsson, Pulis, Henry, Sidibe, Pericard.
