‘Boomerang’ Dom to be given Stoke coaching role?

Dominic Matteo may be in line for a coaching role at Stoke after the player was released by the club in the summer.

The former Potters’ captain originally joined in January 2007 on a six month contract, he was then released 12 months ago, but after asking to train with the squad during last pre-season, was then offered a one year contract and also won the right to the captain’s armband after impressing Tony Pulis with his attitude to the other players in the dressing room. He then found himself back on the market when he was released again at the end last season, but ‘Boomerang’ Dom again got himself a place in the squad for this round of pre-season training and has been ever-present throughout the recent friendlies.

Now Pulis seems to have given up the possibility of ever getting rid of the experienced midfielder, who spent seven seasons at Liverpool in the 1990’s, and is considering offering him a coaching role at the Brit.

He told BBC Radio Stoke: ‘We asked Dominic to get involved with the young players and the reserves.

‘He’s experienced and wants to remain in the game, we want to give him the opportunity to enjoy coaching.’
