Mark Hughes can welcome back Ryan Shawcross to his Premier League match squad for the first time this season following his successful outing in midweek against Chelsea in the Capital One Cup.
Shawcross’ return is even more welcome following the news Marc Muniesa will be missing for at least four weeks with a hamstring injury and fellow defender Geoff Cameron is also missing through injury.
Erik Pieters is available for the trip to Newcastle following suspension, with fellow full back Glen Johnson back in contention after returning to training, but Phil Barnsley is suspended.
There are doubts over forwards Mame Biram Diouf, who was sore and stiff after his 120 minutes in the week whilst Jon Walters was forced off with a dead leg.
Vital Stoke predicted eleven:
Butland
Johnson Wollscheid Shawcross Pieters
Adam Whelan
Shaqiri Bojan Arnautovic
