Jack Butland was Stoke city’s hero once again after a stunning display in goals thwarted Newcastle attempts to get a rare win for the magpies.

It’s now 8 months and counting since Newcastle last won a match at 3pm on Saturday afternoon, luckily for the potters it carried on thanks to an inspirational display from jack Butland.

The game started brightly for both teams but it was Newcastle with the first effort on target after. 4 minutes, Mitrovic with a low effort but easily saved by Butland. Just a minute later Bojan goes down in the Newcastle penalty area but any claims for a penalty are dismissed by the referee.

Newcastle looked very dangerous early on and only a last minute challenge from Potters defender Phillip wollscheid denies Mitrovic from scoring all this after only 7 minutes.

Jonathan Walters spurned a chance for Stoke after great work from Charlie Adam and Newcastle hit the post with Butland beaten from Mitrovic glance at goal. It was then the magpies turn for a penalty appeal after Perez went down in the box but once again it was waved away by the officials. The first half fizzles out after a fast start from both teams.

The second half starts brightly with both keepers forced into action early on but both keepers remain tight in their goals. But it was Stoke goalkeeper jack Butland who shone the most after great play from Newcastle, saw Sissoko through one on one with the England international keeper only for Butland to make a superb save which sees the ball go over the bar. Mitrovic and Perez have more efforts at goal but Stoke refuse to lay down.

In the last ten minutes Stoke and Newcastle are end to end with Arnautovic denied with a last ditch tackle and Walters just shooting over. But again it was Butland to the rescue with a wonderful save off an effort from Sissoko, he dummies a Stoke defender and shoots at the near post but is thwarted yet again by the premier leagues most in form keeper and he wasn’t stopped their, saving his best save for last when a powerful header from Newcastle player Lascelles bound for goal is tipped over on 87 minutes. It turns out to be the last effort of the game and it’s stalemate on Tyneside.

On this performance Stoke can thank jack Butland for being in goals on this day. Outstanding keeper and outstanding performance from the young, future England number 1 goalkeeper.

Stoke Happy to take the 0-0.
