Stoke ended a day of Fayes with the announcement that they have signed Abdoulaye Faye from Newcastle United.

Earlier on in the afternoon it was announced that Amdy Faye had signed a 12 month contract for an undisclosed fee and the Potters completed a busy Friday with the news that they had also captured Abdoulaye from the Magpies on a three year contract for £2.25m, subject to a work permit.

Faye only has a Senegalese passport and so will need to reapply for a new work permit in the wake of his move, just as Seyi Olofinjana had to do a couple of weeks ago when he joined the Potters from Wolves. Chief Executive, Tony Scholes expects this to be a formality and hopes that it will be complete before the visit of Aston Villa in a week’s time.

Abdoulaye seems to be a bargain buy with rumours of a dressing room bust-up prompting Faye to look to move back to the north-west only a year after following Sam Allardice from Bolton to Tyneside. According to some Toon Army websites, there seems to be a genuine sense of disappointment that Faye has decided to leave St. James Park and that we’ve got a good buy.
