Ryan Shawcross has been rewarded for his exceptional start to his Potters’ career with a call-up to the England U21 squad.

The 20 year old defender joined the Potters permanently earlier this month, after spending the first half of the season on loan from Manchester United, in a potential club record fee of up to £2m.

It was already well known that the England U21 boss, Stuart Pearce, had been tracking the defender and had watched him on more than one occasion.

The U21 team are due to play a UEFA qualifier against the Republic of Ireland next Tuesday at Southampton’s ground – St. Mary’s.

We’ve been wondering who was the last Stoke player to wear an England shirt whilst playing for the club. Any ideas?
