Glenn Whelan has completed his long anticipated transfer move to Stoke from Sheffield Wednesday with just 15 minutes of the transfer window remaining.

Whelan has been tracked by the Potters since the summer and has signed a three and a half year contract for £500,000. The Owls’ midfielder had been in demand with several clubs vying for his signature, including Plymouth who had a £250,000 offer turned down earlier this month after he refused to sign a new contract at Hillsborough.

This is a great end to the transfer window for the Potters and our total spend this month (including potential bonuses for Shawcross) comes to an astonishing £4.5m. Stokies really aren’t used to having that sort of cash splashed at the Brit. Let’s hope it’s all money well spent and we can now really have a go for the Premier League…
