Two home consecutive defeats are almost unheard of at the Brit in recent years and the need to bounce back is top of everyone’s agenda as Everton roll into town.
It wasn’t just that we lost to Fulham on Tuesday, it was the insipid manner of our defeat against a team hardly renowned for success on the road. At least when we lost to Blackpool the other week, we had the lion’s share of the chances – we just didn’t take them.
Tony Pulis has said that he’s read the riot act to his players after the Fulham defeat and told them that no one is safe and everyone has his price as the transfer window opens. As if to reinforce his point, TP has also recalled Danny Pugh and Michael Tonge from their loan at Preston and they’ll both be available for selection
Stoke City Team News:
Matty Etherington and Jon Walters have struggled with injuries over the past two games and are a doubt. Robert Huth is suspended after picking up his 5th yellow in a needless challenge on Tuesday. Better news in that Jermaine Pennant is available after he signed a permanent deal on Wednesday.
Player to watch: Kenwyne Jones
Jones has attracted his fair share of criticism over the past few games, but he also needs to get some good service from his teammates in midfield if we’re going to see some better performances from the Trinidadian.
Everton Team News:
The Toffees are sitting just below us in 11th place, but they’re enjoying a good run at the moment – including a club record of eight games unbeaten (and counting) on the road.
Victor Anichebe is suspended whilst Phil Jagielka and John Heitinga have only an ‘outside chance’ of playing.
Player to watch: Tim Cahill
The Australian international has scored nine times so far this season
