Goodbye Gudjohnsen?

Stoke City`s striker Eidur Gudjohnsen has been made available for transfer ahead of the January sales, but will only leave the club if they receive an offer that meets the valuation of the Icelander.

Since joining from Monaco on deadline day of the summer transfer window, Gudjohnsen hasn`t made the impact that he would of hoped for. Fitness has been his biggest obstacle which has held the 32-year-old back, limiting him to just five appearances for the Potters so far.

Eidur is gradually growing tireder of the bench as he`s hungry for first team action, and the chance to prove his abillties. But he has failed to brake into Tony Pulis`s regular squad.

As he gets fatter, his chances to play regular football for Stoke grow slimmer so he wants to leave Stoke, in order to get back to his renowned form and fitness. Pulis has admitted he would let him go, but only if the price is right.

‘If there’s a deal you think is right for the club and the player thinks is right for him, then you get the deal done,’ Pulis said. But commenting on his work ethic, Pulis added ‘he’s come in on his days off and worked hard, he’s just been unfortunate.’

Eidur Gudjohnsen became one of the biggest names to put on the red and white strip when he put pen to paper on a 12 month contract for an undisclosed fee. His playing history says it all about his abillities; winning the Premier League title with Chelsea, along with the Spanish league title and the UEFA Champions League while at Barcelona are just a couple of examples.

So the Iceland international doesn`t need to prove himself. He only needs to play some games before his true skillful self surfaces. But with Stoke fans being disappointed with his contributions to the club so far, they may not too fussed if he leaves.

As for me, it would be a shame for him to leave if he hasn`t really had the opportunities to prove himself. I`d like to see him in the starting line-up against Cardiff in the upcoming cup tie. It`s surprising how the knowledge of starting a game affects the performances put out by the player on the day. If he fails to impress in that match though, then maybe he`ll want to consider a new future elsewhere.
