Stoke City have decided not to renew the contract of Michael Owen.

Since his arrival in September, the former England international has failed to make much of an impact at the Britannia Stadium.

Owen has started just one game for the Potters this season, an FA Cup tie at Crystal Palace in January. Meanwhile, he has only appeared from the bench on six occasions in the Premier League, scoring once.

The former Liverpool, Real Madrid, Newcastle and Manchester United player has been hampered by niggling injuries during his time at Stoke.

The club`s board want to pursue a different transfer strategy of young, foreign talent in the summer and look to have run out of patience with Owen, who`s appeared more times on television than he has on the pitch this season.

Owen signed for the Potters on a one-year pay-as-you-pay deal after being released by Sir Alex Ferguson at the end of last season.
