England legend Michael Owen has today signed a one-year deal with Stoke.

The 32-year-old striker was released by Manchester United in May and there was speculation Liverpool were closing in on his signing, but Tony Pulis has got his man.

The deal is believed to be a pay-as-you-play deal, with the option of a second year if Owen meets certain appearance requirements.

Owen has netted 221 goals in 473 appearances in his career, including 40 for England, and he represents a major coup for the Potters who have already strengthened their squad with the likes of Steven N’Zonzi and Charlie Adam.

For me, this is a massive signing for Stoke, we’ve desperately needed a natural goalscorer for a long, long time and IF Michael Owen is fit, there are few better.
