With Stoke City’s chase for Aston Villa centre-half James Chester stumbling following their takeover, we are now being linked with another Welshman – Everton’s Ashley Williams.
The 33-year-old Welsh skipper hasn’t had the best of times at Goodison Park following his big-money move from Swansea City back in August 2016. Despite making 73 appearances in total, with a return of three goals, he’s failed to win over the fanbase as they see him as a weakness in their defence.
How much of that is down to Williams and how much is down to ongoing tensions with former manager Sam Allardyce and the season they had under him in 2017/18 is open to debate – but you don’t have to look hard or far to see that plenty of their fans want him gone this summer.
The Daily Mail have linked us with an interest in him and he’s available.
They say a loan deal is the likely way forward and we will only pay a portion of his reported £65,000 a week and he does only have 12 months left on his existing deal with them. He could certainly do a job for us in the Championship and then we can assess things this time next year if necessary.
I’m no expert on Everton, but given what I saw of him at Swansea and for Wales, I struggle to believe he’s become that bad overnight. Some transfers just don’t work out though.
Last year of his contract, get him gone on loan and we don't have to deal with him next season.

Last year of his contract no one will pay a penny, Stoke will loan for the season then get him for free at the end of the season probs, if it goes through.

1. Nobody wants to spend money on him
2. Loaning this season effectively is selling him as he will be released at the end of the season— Ged (@Ged_Robinson) August 1, 2018
Lets all get together and pay a £1 a week, sorted!

I want him gone, but don't we need to buy a couple of CBs before we start shipping them out?

Does he need a lift to stoke? I’ll take him any time day or night
