Good point for Stoke but still a bore draw

This was a drab encounter and not entirely unexpected. But the travelling Potters’ fans should have expected a Wolves side that’s not quite safe yet to have put up more of a spirited attack than they did.

Even the Wolves fans seemed to be quite happy with their own dreadful performance on the day, epitomised by their keenness to direct a chant of ‘boring’ at the visitors as though it’s our duty to show them how to score goals. I did think that this was a bit rich, coming from a club that have only scored three goals at home this year and the last one was over two months ago!

We did try and oblige, as we generally dominated the game but desperately missed Ricardo Fuller in the final third. The Wolves defence was so keen to try and tire Rory out that they conceded at least 24 throw-ins during the game that were within Delap range (I’m sure that there were more but I got fed-up counting them).

For Stoke, Glenn Whelan had two good chances from range that just went over the bar, Abdy Faye was close to converting a couple of Rory’s incoming missiles, but saw them go agonisingly wide of the post and Mamady Sidibe fired high over in arguably one of the best chances of the game.

The home side’s chances were more limited, but Potters’ fans hearts were in their mouths when Thomas Sorensen fumbled a well-taken free kick late on in the game.

So, not a good match to write about, but bore draws on the road are fine by me, especially when it means that we’ve not conceded a goal in three Premier League matches.
