Departing Chairman, Gunnar Gislason has taken one last opportunity to hit out at the criticism leveled against the Icelanders.

The statement can be seen on the official site, but contains several attempts to counter criticism of the recent running of the football club, including one aimed at Peter Coates about Johan Boskamp:
‘Unless things are going very well on the pitch there will always be some criticism of the manager. We have had our share of criticism for the managers we have employed. Our current manager, Johan Boskamp, has not been universally accepted among supporters.Although he is not perfect I think Johan did a decent job last season and that he would have done an even better job next season if he had had the chance to work with his team for another year. Some of the club’s premier supporters claim that Johan is totally useless as a football manager in England and the players he brought to the club were equally worthless. If that is true then we can be pleased that at least we have a benchmark for the club’s next manager who, with a full pre-season before him and hopefully with some resources at his disposal, surely must do better than a mid-table finish next season.’

The statement appears at first glance to be somewhat bitter, but would indicate that the sale contracts are all but complete.

  • Wish Stoke would get this sorted fast. We at Plymouth are in limbo too, Because of Tony Pullis. The Majority want him to stay with us. The Majority of Stoke fans don’t want him back, but it would appear that he is coming back. Does that mean fans opinions don’t count.

  • Bang on there Plymouth man. Big bucks count. Our Mr Coates has them & very soon it will br his “train set” to do with as he pleases. Even if it does hack-off both sets of supporters.

But go on, secretly you’ll all be glad to get shut of him down there won’t you?

  • The football I saw wasn’t great. But compared to the Previous Manager, who play attacking football all the time and got beat heavily away from home a few times last season. This season they were comfortable, they compeated with everyone.

  • I never liked seeing the icelanders coming into english football. They were here for one thing, and one thing only. MONEY !!! Good riddance to em i say.
