Championship all sorted

With the relegation clubs now known and the top two places already sorted, there is only the play-offs winner to be decided.

After today’s news that Sheffield Wednesday have beaten Brighton 2-0 down on the south coast, thus ensuring their own survival, we now know that Millwall, Brighton and our South Cheshire neighbours, Crewe will be joining that other local team of ours, Port Vale, in League One next season.

It’s a shame to see the Alex go down as a local derby always sets the heart pounding a little bit more, but their recent good run of form (including today’s draw against Cardiff) has proved to be too little, too late. If they play like that next season, maybe they’ll bounce straight back up.

It’s also a shame that the Championship is all done and dusted with still two games to go. The final Sunday of the season normally throws up some nail-biting games but we already know that Reading are Champions, Sheffield United will take the runners up spot and that Watford, Leeds, Preston and Palace will compete for the final promotion spot.
