Lewis Buxton is set to return early for pre-season training as he continues to fight his way back to full fitness after suffering a back injury.

Buxton joined the club from Portsmouth in December 2004 during Tony Pulis’ first stint in the job and made 45 starts in the subsequent 18 months until the injury last year condemned him to nearly a whole season away from football.

Whether he is now able to force himself back into a defensive setup that is radically different to the one he left under Johan Boskamp in May 2006 remains to be seen, but it’s good to see him fit and back in contention.
