Stoke reserve keeper and former Dutch international, Ed De Goey is in discussions with the Potters about renewing his contract which expires in the summer.

The former Chelsea and Feyenoord player has been in the Potteries for the last three years but has not seen much action this season and has only started one game.

The renowned keeper, who will turn 40 just before Christmas, was widely expected to retire last season but surprised fans with his decision to sign another one year contract. This contract is now up and De Goey’s agent, Ger Lagendijk, has revealed that they are again talking to Stoke about a further term, but this is by no means certain: ‘We are having discussions at the moment but they are very difficult discussions,’ Lagendijk said.
‘His left eye is saying he should play but his right eye is saying it is better to stop.
Adding: ‘If he does stop there are possibilities in Holland as a goalkeeper coach but nothing is sure at the moment.’

We’ll all be very disappointed if the big man does hang up his gloves as he is still a very able deputy for Steve Simonsen but I would not be surprised if he does take this opportunity to start a well earned retirement.
