Diego Arismendi will spend this season on loan at Barnsley.

Arismendi has been one of TP’s ‘ones for the future’ since the 22 year old Uruguayan was signed twelve months ago. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Brighton where his fellow countryman, Gus Poyet is boss but he’s said to not have impressed on the south coast and seems to be finding it tough settling into English football.

He’ll now get another chance to see if he can fulfill his promise with the Tykes where Carl Dickinson and Ryan Shotton spent a large part of last season.

Diego was one of five players who haven’t gone with the rest of the squad on their pre-season trip to Austria. We now know why the Uruguayan didn’t make the trip, Ricardo Fuller has been given leave for personal reasons and Thomas Sorensen has been given time off after returning from the World Cup. That just leaves Dave Kitson and James Beattie who are unaccounted for on last weekend’s plane trip to Graz and so it’s doesn’t take a brain surgeon to come to the conclusion that they could be finally on their way out of the Brit very shortly.
