Stoke are reportedly set to bid £2.5 million for Aston Villa centre-back Curtis Davies. It is widely expected that we would draft in another defender to cover the likes of Huth and Shawcross and the BBC reports that Davies is the man for the job.

The 25 year-old hasn`t lived up to high expectations at Villa Park since his £8 million move from West Brom two and a half years ago. He hasn`t even started a league game for 18 months and has been on loan at Leicester recently.

If Pulis pulls off the deal then it is likely that Abdoulaye Faye`s time at the Brit will come to an end. Abdoulaye will go down as one of Pulis`s best singing in the Premier League after becoming a fan favourite shortly after his move 2 and a half years ago. He quickly became our captain and although his form has dipped considerably over the past year he will always be a much-loved player amongst the fans. Unfortunately his contract runs out in the summer and Stoke will prefer to sell him now to avoid him leaving for free.

But out with the old and in with the new and Davies is a potentially exciting player for Stoke. He still has plenty to learn but has bags of potential, just like Ryan Shawcross. He is available for transfer and the money Stoke are offering is good for all parties, so this move has a lot going for it.
