Stoke have finally completed the transfer of West Ham winger, Matthew Etherington for an ‘undisclosed fee’ which is rumoured to be around £3m. He has signed a three year contract.

It was widely reported earlier this week that Etherington had been to the Brit for personal talks and the club had confirmed that they were on the verge of a signing but, as seems usual at the Brit, these things always take longer than you think they should, almost creating panic amongst fans on internet message boards.

With his well reported gambling problems of a couple of years ago supposedly behind him, he’s had five seasons of regular first team football at Upton Park since joining from Spurs. He missed the end of last season through injury and has struggled to endear himself to the Hammers’ new boss, Gianfranco Zola – just making nine starts.

He brings some much needed left wing skills to Stoke and should be available to start in the big match on Saturday at home to Liverpool.
