Stoke City and Michael Owen are anxiously waiting on a decision to see whether the former England international can play before January.

The Potters apparently submitted a 25-man squad to the Premier League for the coming season without Michael Owen`s name being on it.

The Staffordshire outfit have since requested the approval of the Premier League to allow Michael Owen to replace one of the names originally submitted to the league.

The Premier League said in a statement: ‘The Premier League board is currently considering an application from Stoke City to register a player and, subsequently, their squad list will be confirmed at a later date.’

Stoke were the only team not to submit their 25 man squad yesterday (4th September) and if the proposal to add Owen to the squad is declined, then Stoke will not be able to replace Owen with another player.
