Denmark and Stoke City goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen has been ruled out of Euro 2012 after suffering an injury in Denmark`s penultimate warm up game for the tournament.

Sorensen had to be replaced after 28 minutes in Denmark`s 3-1 friendly defeat to Brazil after he suffered a back injury and was replaced by Stephan Anderson.

Denmark`s coach Morten Olson said: “It`s a serious blow for us.

“Thomas is a fantastic person and professional and his experience is exactly what we required in this tournament against some of the best teams in the world.”

The Dane has been replaced by Leicester City`s goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel in Denmark`s final squad.

Peter Schemeichel, Kasper`s father was an integral part of the Danish side that won the European Championship`s 20 years ago at Euro `92.

The Danish stopper has 101 caps for his country and was set to be the number one in Ukraine and Poland for Denmark in their tough group stage.

Denmark are in a group with World Cup finalists Holland, three times World Champions Germany and Portugal.

The tournament gets underway in Ukraine and Poland on the 8th June.
