Stoke striker, Mamady Sidibe has decided to play again for Mali despite his horrific ordeal last year.

Sidibe was badly injured after rioting Togo fans left him with an injured arm that required emergency surgery after the game in which Mali qualified for the African Cup of Nations in Ghana later this month.

He originally said that he would never play international football again, but has been won round by the Mali FA and some members of his family. But some reports have said that his decision is, in part, to safeguard those members of his family that live in Mali from any reprisals from fans if he did not play.

Sidibe will be absent from the middle of January for up to six weeks, depending how far Mali progress in the biennial tournament.
