Ryan Shawcross has been recalled to the England U21 squad.

The 21 year old gained two caps towards the end of last season after impressing in the Potters’ promotion run-in. It took him awhile to find his feet in the Premier League but has regained his form recently with three goals in the last four games. Not a bad record for a central defender and they more than made amends for the own goal in the Portsmouth match a few weeks ago.

  • A very well deserved call up for Ryan – after a dodgy start to the season he is now one of our most consistent players. The mystery is why he wasn’t in the original squad and was only called up as a replacement. Hopefully he’ll get a bit more time on the pitch – but not too much, I don’t want him knackered when he plays against the Baggies.
