The date is set for the memorial match for the late Gary Speed, and fellow Welshman Tony Pulis has openly admitted that he would happily take charge of Wales for the game, but for that game only.
29th February will see Wales take on Costa Rica in what promises to be a fitting tribute to the former Everton, Newcastle and Bolton midfielder, and of course, former Wales manager.
Managing your national squad is something of an honour for many, not least our Tony, so he would be happy to offer his services to the Welsh FA, and although Tony would perhaps consider a permanent basis with Wales at some point during his career, now wouldn`t be the right time for the 53-year-old as he feels his duties remain firmly at the Britannia Stadium.
Speaking to the press, he said: “Anything that would help in any shape or form in respect of Gary Speed, I would gladly do.
“I would have to speak to [Stoke chairman] Peter [Coates] first, of course, and if he didn’t think it was right then fine, but if he was okay and they asked me for just a one-off game, then I’d do it out of respect for Gary.”
He added: “My main job remains at Stoke, but as I’ve said before, your national job is something you might look at in the future.”
Gary was a well loved footballer and manager that had a unique eye for the game. He often offered his wisdom to the national media by appearing frequently as a guest pundit for the BBC, and occasionally for other sports channels. His success as a professional, and influence on the British public has been one of a great measure that has been praised highly by many respected people in and around football.
