Defying some bookies who already paid out on their relegation after just one match, Stoke City responded by beating much fancied Aston Villa at the Britannia Stadium.

Mamady Sidibe’s last minute goal meant Liam Lawrence’s penalty and Ricardo Fuller’s strike weren’t in vain despite John Carew and Liam Lawrence finding the net for Villa.

Speaking after the match, manager Tony Pulis said he isn’t paying much attention to what the bookmakers believe and thinks the fantastic atmosphere which greeted their first ever Premier League home match will help the club push on in their attempt at consolidation in England’s top flight.
