Tony Pulis has made it clear that he’d like to keep Thomas Sorensen at the Brit and the club have said that they’ve opened contract negotiations with the Danish keeper.

There has been speculation that Sorensen will leave the club if he doesn’t manage to force his way back into the number one spot with his international career in the balance if he’s not getting regular first team action. With Asmir Begovic putting in man of the match performances like he did against the Baggies on Monday night, barring injuries, it doesn’t look likely he’s going to get anything more than bit parts for the remainder of this season.

So for the club to open negotiations and for the BBC to report that Tony Pulis has said that Tommo is also keen to see a new contract sorted is positive news. To have two top quality keepers on our books (along with the dependable Carlo Nash as our third choice keeper)is a good basis to continue to build a decent squad.

The only cloud on the horizon is that Begovic’s exploits will not have gone unnoticed by those higher up the league and may encourage the likes of Chelsea to try and repeat their failed attempts to poach the Bosnian international.
