Jones fails to wear ‘Kick it out’ shirt in protest

Kenwyne Jones was one of a number of players over the weekend to not wear the ‘Kick racism out of football` shirts in the Premier League.

Jones, along with Manchester United`s Rio Ferdinand, Everton`s Steven Pienaar and Victor Anicebe, Reading`s Jason Roberts, the whole of the Swansea and Wigan sides and QPR`s Anton Ferdinand all decided to not wear the shirts in protest of recent racism in football.

Recent cases such as the Ferdinand and Terry affair and the treatment of the England under-21 side in Serbia has triggered the protest as the players don`t believe that football`s governing bodies are not doing enough.

Certain players believe that their needs to be more severe punishments against racist action.

Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic believes that there should be points deductions.

The Bosnian told BBC sport: “Financial punishments are not as big a deal to most countries, certainly to bigger FA`s.

‘Maybe teams should have to forfeit games or lose points – which means everyone suffers – so people learn.’


Manchester United`s Rio Ferdinand could have possible action from his club manager, Sir Alex Ferguson after not wearing his shirt in the warm up at the weekend.


It is yet to be seen whether Stoke manager Tony Pulis has any issues with Jones not wearing his shirt.
