Paul Jewell is being linked to the vacant assistant manager’s post at Stoke City.

It was announced recently that Pulis’ current assistant, Dave Kemp, has been given the new role of overseas scout with an emphasis on seeking out new talent in the US. With his family based over in the US, it had been mooted for awhile now that he was keen to spend more time at home.

It would certainly be a coup for the Potters to get an experienced former Premier League manager to understudy Tony Pulis. Jewell took Wigan from the old Division 2 (now League 1) to the Premier League and kept them there until he resigned after six years at the club in 2007. He then resurfaced the following November in a torrid season as manager of Derby County which saw them relegated from the Premier League with the lowest ever points tally. He resigned from the job at Pride Park at the end of 2008, but not before the Rams had beaten the Potters at the Brit in the Carling Cup quarter-finals.
