Glenn Whelan and Ricardo Fuller were in action last night as both Ireland and Jamaica came out victorious in their World Cup qualifiers.

Whelan, who is holding down a starting place for his country but can’t seem to get off the bench at Stoke, played the entire 90 minutes in the Republic’s 1-0 win over Cyprus. But the BBC did comment that Whelan’s role was ‘largely anonymous’.

The Reggae Boyz also ran out 1-0 victors against Honduras in Jamaica with Ric Fuller again playing after his goal was enough to give Jamaica victory in last weekend’s win over Mexico. These two good wins against tough opposition have moved Jamaica off the bottom of the CONCACAF Group Two World Cup table and they now have a far better, but still slim, chance of progressing through to the next stage of the competition

With Fuller not due back at the Brit until Friday morning, Tony Pulis will have to wait to see how much this week’s exertions have taken their toll on the striker before deciding if he is able to take part in Sunday’s match against Spurs at the Brit.
