The proposed transfer of Juan Agudelo has been cancelled after Stoke haven`t been able to get a work permit for the American.

The appeals panel gave no reason as per the rules of an appeal, but why haven`t the Potters been able to tie up a deal for their target?

I personally believe Stoke have shot their selves in the foot after the Brek Shea deal.

When trying to complete the deal for the American, Stoke had to appeal to gain a work permit for the left sided midfielder, even getting the word of the then American manager Bruce Arena to admit that Shea would have been chosen for his country if fit.

After all the effort Stoke put into to get the exciting winger, he has failed to set the world on fire and Stoke are now trying to ship him out of the door, with a temporary move to the Championship looking his likely destination.

Has his lack of game time and that of fellow American Maurice Edu put off the appeal`s panel or is the recent stance by FA chief Greg Dyke for move home grown talent made it harder for players that need permits to play in the English Premier League from now on?
