Looks like harmony has broken out at last. Both John Rudge and assistant manager Jan de Koning have returned to work following the public bust up with Johan Boskamp.
Extensive talks have taken place all week after the argument between Johan Boskamp, Stoke’s director of football John Rudge and assistant manager Jan de Koning. The root of the problem after Boskamp felt ‘compromised’ when Rudge and de Koning discussed tactics following the 2-1 victory against Coventry.
Rudge and De Koning were both put on leave. Reports had claimed that Boskamp wanted them both fired, although with mixed results in the league despite some attractive football, he might not have been standing on the firmest of ground himself.
Stoke defender Halls yesterday gave Boskamp a vote of approval saying: ‘We’re all hoping it can be resolved sooner rather than later. Of course we’ve talked about it but I can say that it really hasn’t affected the lads at all. We don’t really know much about it – no more than everyone else – and whenever it gets sorted out, we just want it to be something positive because all the lads want Boskamp to stay.’
The only comment from Scholes up until today was basically a no comment! ‘We’ve got nothing to report at the moment.’
The chief executive has now had time to have a ‘full review of the roles of the management team’ and set them all back to work! He continued ‘It is now important that we put this behind us, pull together and Johan Boskamp and Jan de Koning in particular, focus on the Crewe match this coming Saturday. John Rudge will continue to focus on the medium to long-term development of the squad. Johan Boskamp’s role is to manage the current first team, with Jan de Koning as his assistant.’
