Manchester United`s Darron Gibson is the latest player to be linked with Stoke this summer – after the Mirror`s Simon Bird revealed Sunderland may struggle to meet the midfielder`s wage demands.

The 23-year-old Republic of Ireland international looked all set for a move to the North East to meet up with his former colleagues Wes Brown and John O`Shea but personal terms may prove to be a stumbling block and a move to Stoke could be on the horizon.

Bird told TalkSport : “His personal terms might be too much for Sunderland at the moment and he could be heading to Stoke or staying in the North West”.

The former Wolves loanee has played 30 times for the Champions notching four goals but is looking for regular first-team football after learning his trade under Sir Alex. A player who is comfortable on the ball with an eye for goal, he would be a solid if unspectacular buy for the Potters.
