Former Potter James O`Connor has jumped the pond and joined up with Stoke`s sister club Orlando City.

He will be reunited with former Stoke team mate Lewis Neal and former backroom staff members: Phil Rawlins and manager Adrian Heath at the Florida based club.

O`Connor told Orlando`s official website: “I know an awful lot of people here so it`s familiar. Next season is something I`m really excited about.”

The 32 year old joins up with USL Pro Champions Orlando after being released at the end of his Sheffield Wednesday contract at the beginning of the month.

The Irish central midfielder has enjoyed a long and successful career in around the English Championship, starting his career at the Potters making 176 appearances for the club before moving on to Midlands rivals West Brom. The Dubliner then had a stint at Burnley before a three year spell with Sheffield Wednesday, seeing him make 139 appearances.

The former Stoke man believes his experience could be vital: “I think I can bring experience and leadership to the team. It`s important when you have a career like mine to help people. It`s key to be able to share those experiences and teach the younger guys on the club about how to train at a high level. “

Adrian Heath`s Orlando City are preparing for the new league season which begins in America on April 7th as they look to regain their USL Pro Championship. The addition of James O`Connor can only surely strengthen their “roster.”
