Former Potter, John Halls has moved to Preston North End from Reading on a one month loan.

The defender was a crowd favourite at the Brit until his move to Reading in 2005. But his disappearance off football’s radar was fairly instant and prolonged, having only made seven appearances in all competitions over the last two seasons at the Royals, although he has been plagued by an Achilles injury for some of that time.

Halls will be hoping that this step down will be the catalyst that will kick-start his career as PNE boss, Paul Simpson is open to the possibility of signing him up in January, but gave warning that he’ll have to fight for his future: ‘He’s played quite a number of games, but for a lad of his age I’m sure he’ll say he hasn’t played enough. He’s coming in here and he’s got to prove to us that it’s something that we may even consider further down the line to bring him in on a permanent deal.’
