Could Pompey cash in on Lawrence?

Liam Lawrence may have only officially signed for Portsmouth a couple of days ago, but he’s already been linked with a move to West Ham.

A report in the Mirror today says that the Hammers’ boss (and former Pompey manager) Avram Grant is ready to spend £4m bringing the former Stoke player to the East End of London. Because of paperwork delays at the end of August, Liam was still officially a Potters’ player until last Saturday when ‘an undisclosed fee’ converted his emergency loan into a three and half year permanent contract and he’s certainly been doing well on the south coast with 7 goals in just 17 appearances.

I have to admit I’m a bit sceptical that this rumour is really going to fly, especially if it could fall foul of the transfer rules. Whilst FIFA rules allow for a player to be contracted to three clubs in a season as long as they only play for two of them (Liam never played for us this season), I’m not sure if the rule book allows a player to move twice within the same transfer window.
