Luke Chadwick has had an operation on his knee after being injured whilst playing in his debut for Norwich.

Chadwick, who joined the Canaries on loan last week, scored on his debut in Norwich’s 3-1 defeat at Ipswich on Sunday but was then injured in a bizarre accident when he collided with an advertising hoarding on the side of the pitch. Early reports said that he had dislocated his shoulder again but it now appears that the main injury was a gash on his knee and he underwent surgery after the match and will stay in hospital until Tuesday.

Norwich’s physio told their official site: ‘He had surgery done last night on his knee to clean it up. He’s had a really nasty gash on it. It was very deep and long. But it could have been a lot more serious. If it had been three inches lower it could have been much more serious.’

Luke has been accident prone recently after collapsing during the first game of the season with exhaustion and had to spend a night in a Southend hospital. He then dislocated his shoulder during the Potters’ 2-1 win over Sunderland in October.

Whilst he is still technically a Stoke player, both clubs have said that they expect him to sign permanently for the Canaries in the January transfer window after his family decided that they wanted to move back to the Cambridge area.
