Buxton leaves but will Sonko follow?

The club have confirmed that Lewis Buxton has made his loan move to Sheffield Wednesday permanent and new reports link Ibrahima Sonko with a move to Birmingham City.

Buxton will net the club ‘a nominal sum’ with the move to the Owls and Sonko is another who has failed to live up to some early promise at the Britannia Stadium. He signed in the summer in a £2m move from Reading but has only made six league starts.

Even if the Potters do recoup some of the £2m from the Blues they’ll have to spend it quickly if they’re going to strengthen the squad any further ahead of the closing of the transfer window next Monday at 5pm.
