Butland heroics grab Stoke a point at West Ham

Stoke City and West Ham United shared the spoiled in an entertaining game at the Boleyn Ground.

Both teams had chances in the stalemate, but in the end the goalkeepers were the heroes in the capital.

Butland made an astonishing eight saves, whilst Adrian was forced into two great saves late on from Stoke substitute Mame Biram Diouf.

Both teams also hit the woodwork as defenders and goalkeepers came out on top.

With the clean sheet, it meant that Ryan Shawcross continued his superb record this season of not conceding a Premier League goal whilst being on the pitch.

The Stoke captain has now gone 497 minutes without conceding a goal.

Stoke were forced into one change from the side that beat Manchester City as Xherdan Shaqiri was forced to sit out and Marco van Ginkel came into the starting eleven.

The Dutch on-loan star thwarted an opportunity to open the scoring early on after good work by Ibrahim Afellay, as he could only scuff wide.

West Ham were also hit with injuries in the week and were forced to introduce Michail Antonio and James Collins for Victor Moses and Winston Reid.

Antonio, making his first West Ham league start since joining from Nottingham Forest, impressed for the Hammers and had five shots at Butland`s goal, but the England international was more than a match.

Stoke had a number of golden opportunities in the second half but thwarted each opportunity. Marko Arnautovic`s deflected freekick came back off the bar, whilst Mame Biram Diouf missed two late chances.

Diouf was first put in by the impressive Glen Johnson, but he could only hit the keeper from the former England full backs cross, whilst moments later Charlie Adam found the Sengalese international, but once again he fired at the goalkeeper when it looked easier to score.

West Ham hit the woodwork their selves late on through Mark Noble and almost one it with the last kick of the game, but the Potters were able to scramble the ball away.
