Johan Boskamp has signed a one year contract (with an option on a second) to be head coach at top Belgium club, Standard Liege.

Boskamp is out of contract here at the end of June and new chairman, Peter Coates has always made it plain that he would not be offered a new contract if he took over the club.

Standard finished runners-up in the Belgium league and Boskamp said that he got on well with them after the club contacted him to see if he was interested.
He told the Belgium newspaper, Het Laatste Nieuws: ‘I must say that I was shocked such a club contacted me,’
‘We mostly spoke about the sporting side of the job and we noticed we were on the same wavelength.’

Johan was able to choose between Standard Liege (from whom Stoke signed Sam Bangoura last year) and Beveren, who had already offered him a contract.
