Stoke City have rejected an approach from Sheffield United for Potters’ captain and former Leeds and Chelsea player, Michael Duberry.

Sheffield United manager, Neil Warnock had asked if the 31 year old defender would be available on loan until the end of the season but was quickly told by Johan Boskamp that he was not available.

Warnock is trying to strengthen his back row after a string of injuries and has already signed former Potters Ade Akinbiyi and Bruce Dyer in the January transfer window.

Duberry signed for Stoke from Leeds in February 2005 after a successful loan period and his existing contract is not due to expire until June 2007.
