Ian Whalley: “The first time I came across Nath or ‘Granary` was playing against Eccleshall cricket club under 11’s. It soon became clear to me that he was one of the best players that I had played against he was also captain and was brilliant at it, his understanding of the game was like somebody who had played for 40 years. He was truly a great cricketer which was reflected by him winning many awards at all age groups.
“I also remember the times we spent at county trials and cricket nets in the winter, Nathan really made these things funny with his witty cricket banter. I remember he got me out once and he did not stop reminding me, when cricket was in the conversation.
“It was just not cricket that we talked about, when Stoke was the conversation mostly in our business studies lessons, he was always the centre of the argument. He was brilliant at talking about the game and all of his trademark sayings always made me laugh, my favourite being ‘Fuller is on a different postcode`.
“Granary was such a talented person and was always good at anything he did. I am glad that I got to play with and against him in many sports and was able to chat with him about many things his input was always valuable to me. I am very proud to call him a close friend. He`d call me gay for this, but I love you Gran x”
Chloe Bruce: “Granary was exceptionally intelligent, unlike myself. He would often have something to say about my lack of enthusiasm for school, especially when it came to attending psychology lessons. But he put this aside and was the first one to offer me help, but of course that included some sarcastic comments; it was Granary after all! I`ll always remember him as an outstanding friend who wasn’t shy to lend a hand. His witty humour got me through some horribly boring lessons, and will be something I will always remember. They say the best ones go first and Granary was definitely one of the best. R.I.P mate. X”
Harriet McDougal-Brownhill: “To me, Nathan was without a doubt the most gifted and talented person I have ever met. He was such an inspiration to me and I will never forget that. The way in which he was so ready to help if I was stuck with something, and his ability to make me laugh with his dry sense of humour. I am proud to say he was a good friend of mine and that during my time at sixth form I got to know him personally, and from this, I have lots of memories of the times we shared. Especially the day where he decided to make me an email account with the name ‘Marriet` (the m standing for moron). I can honestly say that he will leave a gap in my life and it was a pleasure to have known him. It was a privilege to have spent time with such a remarkable guy and I am going to miss him dearly. He will never be forgotten xxx”
