Stoke City full back Marc Wilson has suffered a broken fibula.

The Republic of Ireland international went down after an innocuous challenge from Steven Fletcher in Stoke`s fixture against Sunderland (27th October) at the Britannia Stadium.

Wilson called for the Stoke physio straight away and after a long delay he was stretched off the field and taken to hospital for an x-ray.

The 25-year-old confirmed the news of his injury on social media website Twitter. where he tweets under the alias of ‘@wildog87`.

He tweeted: “Have broke my fibula. Hopefully I can make a speedy recovery.”

Wilson`s team mates have also gone to twitter to pass on their condolences and best wishes.

Asmir Begovic tweeted: “Best wishes to @wildog87. You will be back soon bro, I know it! Speedy recovery mate!”

Whilst Carlo Nash tweeted: “Sorry to hear news pal! Hope you get back soon!”

The former Portsmouth player, who joined Stoke in 2010 is set for an extended period on the side lines and could be out for up to 10 weeks.

He has been ever present for the Potters this season, and manager Pulis will now need to look elsewhere to fill the gap left by Wilson, with the most likely replacement being Andy Wilkinson.
