Andy Wilkinson was sent off in Stoke`s friendly win against FC Dallas and could now be suspended for the start of the Premier League season.

Wilkinson was given his marching orders late in the game in Texas as Stoke were trying to see out a 1-0 win over their MLS opponents.

The 28-year-old tried a wild effort at goal with his left foot but missed the ball and on his second attempt clattered into Danny Garcia and was shown a straight red card.

Stoke manager Mark Hughes told the official website: ‘I think Andy held his hands up because he’s just caught him, but the lad made a bit of a meal of it.”

The Stone born defender now has to sweat and wait to see what referee Ted Unkel puts in his match report.

Hughes believes its likely Wilkinson will have to complete a ban.

He said: “We’ll have to see what happens with Andy now, it depends on if the referee puts it in a report.

‘I think he will do because the game was well publicised, so there will be an obligation for him to do so.”

The full back could miss Stoke`s first three fixtures of the 2013/14 season against Liverpool (Away), Crystal Palace (Home) and West Ham (Away).
